The Department of Medicine of the School of Health Sciences of the University of Ioannina continues the organization and operation of the Postgraduate Program (MSc) entitled “Basic Biomedical Sciences (BBE)”, which was re-established with no. 14751 (B’ 1916) decision of the Senate and amended by No. 10612 (B’ 580) decision of the Senate, in accordance with the provisions of this decision and the applicable legislation. The Program aims at the promotion of scientific knowledge and the training of scientists-researchers in the field of basic Biomedical Studies. The graduates of the MSc will have acquired the theoretical and empirical background, will have consolidated the research thinking and technical skills that will enable them to work in various professional and research fields related to education, basic and biomedical research. For the postgraduate program, the Laboratories of Anatomy-Histology, Biology, Biological Chemistry, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology, of the Department of Medicine collaborate.

The administrative support of the Program and the award of a diploma is undertaken by the Department of Medicine of the University of Ioannina. The Program has he ability to conclude cooperation agreements with research institutions or other organizations for the implementation of its objectives, following a decision of the Senate of the University of Ioannina. Other issues governing the organization, operation and management of the Postgraduate Program, and in particular the criteria that are necessary or taken into account in the selection process of the entrants, as well as the way of their proof, the way of evaluation, the selection process of the candidates, the detailed curriculum per specialization, seminars, laboratories of the Postgraduate Program, the elaboration of a Postgraduate Diploma Thesis or the conduct of other educational and research activities defined as mandatory for the successful completion of the Postgraduate Program, the rights and obligations of students and any other issue related to the operation of the conduct of other educational and research activities defined as mandatory for the successful completion of the Postgraduate Program, the rights and obligations of students and any other issue related to the operation of the Program that is not governed by law are regulated by the Rules of Procedure of the Program.

The program operates without tuition fees, the studies are intensive, full-time and last 3 semesters in total. The list of teachers of the Postgraduate Program includes faculty members of the University of Ioannina as well as faculty members of other Universities or Research Institutions in the country. The MSc awards a Master’s Degree in Basic Biomedical Sciences with 3 different specializations.
